Tai Chi – Wednesdays at 12:30
Wednesday, September 6th, Tai Chi will be restarting from the beginning of the series. Now is your chance to try Tai Chi!
Class start at 12:30 on Wednesdays.
Our Tai Chi is FREE and open to anyone but it is especially beneficial to anyone with Parkinson’s. For over 3,000 years, Tai Chi has helped people reduce falls, improve their balance and even help reduce the need for medication. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Spin and Stretch is moving to Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:45 (it was Tuesdays and Fridays).
Spin is a great option for a simple, low-impact, but challenging workout. Spinning has been show to improve motor function, mood, aerobic fitness and cognitive function as well as reduce tremors, bradykinesia, and rigidity. Stretching helps improve your posture, mobility and flexibility. Everything you need! We have six new bikes in our newly formed BDF spin studio. Reserve a bike HERE.
Small Group Training
If you would like a more custom workout at a fraction of the cost of one-on-one training, small group training is a great option. You get the camaraderie of a class but attention and flexibility of personal training. Recruit 3 to 4 people with similar capabilities and goals and let’s give it a shot! Contact me for details.
The Cole Educational Series
Wednesday, September 6th, from 2 – 3 PM at Messiah Lutheran Church
The September Cole Series Educational Program is from Dr. Luis Zayas from the UT Medical Center Cole Center for Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders. Dr. Zayas will be discussing Fall Prevention from his perspective as a Physical Therapist and Movement Disorders Specialist. One fall can be the beginning of the end. But they are very preventable. And, if you do fall, staying healthy and strong can reduce your injury and improve your recovery. September P5 (Pizza, Pints, Poker and Ping Pong)

P5 is our time to take off the gloves and just hang out for a while. We will have Pizza from Hole in the Wall Pizza, low-stakes Poker, two Ping Pong tables, and even Corn Hole. No fund raisers. No planks. No speakers. Just kicking back with friends. $10 each at the door for pizza. Buy/Bring YOB.

PK Hope is Alive
Tuesday, September 16th at 11:30 at 11:30am-1:30pm at Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.
This month, PK Hope will host Mac and Marty McBroom about Marty’s experiences with Deep Brain Stimulation therapy. Lunch will be provided by Medtronic. Details at www.PKHopeisAlive.com
The 8th Annual UTMC Symposium on Parkinson’s
Friday, October 6th, 8:30 to 2:30 at The Venue in Lenoir City.
The UT Parkinson’s symposium is back! There will be an update on PD research, non-medical treatments and DBS therapy. The Keynote speaker is Dr. Alberto Espay, Movement Disorders Specialist and Professor at the University of Cincinnati. He will be talking about how Parkinson’s may not be a single disease, but many – “Splitting over Lumping is the Key to Finding the Cure.” There will be other presentations from the Cole Doctors, lobby presentations, exercise demonstrations, a Q&A panel about “Life Hacks” and lots of other good stuff. You can attend in person or virtually. Register at UTmedicalcenter.org/events/person-8th-annual-parkinsons-symposium. There is no charge to attend and lunch will be provided.
