Meditation
Just like a brief respite for your mind, meditation allows you to temporarily set aside your thoughts and recharge. Learn how to take a few minutes each day to step back from the noise of your mind and find peace in the present moment.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is being fully present and aware of where you are and what you are doing and not reacting to or getting overwhelmed by the chaos in your mind.
Mindfulness is a simple but highly effective technique for relieving the symptoms and stresses of living with Parkinson’s disease.
Meditation and Mindfulness for Parkinson’s disease will be taught by David Patterson, PhD, professor emeritus at the UT College of Social Work and a Certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Teacher. With 30 years of mindfulness practice, he is now an instructor at the Meaning Life Center of Knoxville.
Mindfulness practices help reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease by reducing stress, anxiety and depression among the people with Parkinson’s disease and their care givers. It can also boost feelings of control and resilience, and improve sleep.
